Upsides and downsides of connectivity
A UK expert on the Internet of Things, or IoT, will give a free, public presentation in the Island this week.
A former academic, Dr Alsadair Allan is a respected journalist, commentator, author and blogger on technology applications, and has been invited by the Isle of Man section of the British Computer Society.
IoT is the emerging technology which see everyday appliances network enabled - from your fridge to your central heating - allowing you to set and control them from a smart phone.
In his talk at the Claremont hotel in Douglas on Thursday, Dr Allan will outline the benefits IoT offers - as well as the risk to security and privacy it presents.
The presentation is at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas on Thursday 12 October at 6.15pm.
Tickets are free but should be booked in advance - through www.bcs.org.im
The Society's Graham Hurley says the idea of household devices 'talking' to you has caught the public imagination:

Consultation open on plans to formally recognise the heritage of Douglas Head
Drop-in session to support Isle of Man charities
