Figures published by Hansard show 15,528 people opted to split fee
Fifteen-and-a-half thousand people on the Isle of Man opted to renew their vehicle licence in six-month instalments between May 2023 and April 2024.
The rule change, allowing motorists to split the cost of the yearly fee, came into force last year.
Some MHKs had criticised the extra £6 added to each instalment - Rushen MHK Juan Watterson accused government of "making it more expensive to be poorer."
It's now known that the surcharge brought in £93,168 for the Department of Infrastructure over the course of that year.
The figures have been released via Hansard following a commitment made by the Infrastructure Minister in a sitting of the House of Keys in May.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse asked what consideration had been given to reducing that £6 cost.
