Charity to conduct research into problem
A Manx charity which helps people suffering addiction is warning of a potential drain on public services from older people drinking to excess.
Alcohol advisory service Motiv8 is to carry out research into the scope of the problem among so-called 'baby boomers' - the post-war generation now in their 50s and 60s.
The work is to be funded by the Manx Lottery Fund and the findings published later this year.
Current alcohol guidelines suggested by Motiv8 are 14 units a week - the charity believes many older residents are regularly drinking much more than that.
