Financial discipline and government reform among priorities for Cabinet Office

Minister presents department plan to Tynwald

The Cabinet Office has set out its future priorities saying it will focus on financial discipline and government reform.

It's committed to controlling staffing growth while identifying potential savings by streamlining processes and ensuring tasks are assigned to the appropriate staff grades.

Investment in digital services is also planned to improve public access and efficiency.

Key long-term priorities include addressing demographic changes, the impact of artificial intelligence, climate change, and the need for resilience against external shocks such as economic downturns or cyber-attacks.

The scope of a potential Government Reform Bill is also under review which could include modernising legislation, reducing bureaucracy, and improving regulatory frameworks.

Minister David Ashford stressed the importance of being prepared for emergencies like a future pandemic:

However Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper criticised the report saying it "sounds like it was written by expensive consultants but has no meaning":
