29-year-old told he was in a 'terrible state'
A Douglas man has been fined £160 after being found lying drunk on a pavement on a busy stretch of road.
Members of the public tried to assist Michael William Gerrard when they saw him on Bray Hill at 11am on 3 November.
When police arrived the 29-year-old, from Willaston Crescent, had been propped up against a garden wall; he couldn’t stand or give them any details about where he lived.
At Douglas Courthouse Gerrard admitted being drunk and incapable; his advocate told the court he accepted he’d drank ‘way too much’ before attempting to walk home.
"He is grateful to the passers-by who stopped, and took time out of their day, to check on his welfare,” she added.
Fining Gerrard, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: “You were ‘dead drunk’ in the middle of the morning.
“It is clear you were in a terrible state. I hope there won’t be a repeat of it.”
