18-year-old triggered full emergency response
A Douglas man who set off a fire alarm in a ‘moment of stupidity’ has been fined £200.
Robert Stephen Barclay, of Drury Terrace, broke the glass on the alarm on 8 December after being asked to leave a property on Empire Terrace.
It triggered a full Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service response.
Police found the 18-year-old hiding underneath a car on Douglas Promenade at 2.41am.
He was taken to Police Headquarters where he was found to have 1.4 grams of cannabis on him.
During an appearance at Douglas Courthouse Barclay admitted making the false fire alarm call and possessing the class B substance.
Fining him an additional £50 for the drug offence, and ordering him to pay £125 in prosecution costs, Magistrates told him: "If there had been an actual emergency they needed to deal with it’s taken up their valuable time."
