Magistrates told he hadn't been able to afford it
A Ramsey man has been fined after using his untaxed car to commute to work.
Thirty-three-year-old Raymond Peter Ian Griffin, of Queen’s Pier Apartments, pleaded guilty to driving an untaxed car via a coroner’s admission before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The court heard police stopped Griffin on Albert Street in Ramsey shortly before 11am on 27 May and found his vehicle tax had run out in July last year.
In mitigation, Griffin said he’d lost his job and hadn’t been able to afford to pay the tax owed, but had since found work and needed the vehicle to get there.
He was fined £100 and ordered to £50 towards prosecution costs.
