Concern over chemicals at processing plant
Fire crews from Castletown and Douglas were called out to a blaze thought to involve hazardous materials yesterday (Mon 23rd)
The call out to the Freeport in Ballasalla came around 3.30pm.
Flames had been extinguished by staff at the industrial building, but there was concern that the blaze could re-ignite due to chemical reaction between substances.
Fire officers wearing breathing apparatus worked with staff from the processing plant to make the materials safe and remove them from the unit.
Crews were on the scene for around 2 hours.
