‘No risk to public’ after fire at Castletown Fire Station

Emergency services tackle blaze near Ronaldsway

UPDATE: The fire has been brought under control and the road adjacent to Ronaldsway Airport has reopened. 
 

Emergency services have been dealing with an 'established fire' in the area of the Castletown and Malew Fire and Ambulance Station.

Fire and smoke could be seen leaving the building opposite Ronaldsway Airport.

As a result, the road adjacent to Ronaldsway - the A5 - was closed temporarily.

Police say there is 'no direct fire risk to members of the public at this time and nobody is reported to have been injured as a result'.

However, people in the area are being asked to stay indoors where possible and close windows to avoid smoke inhalation.

Anyone travelling to the airport for the purpose of inbound or outbound travel should contact the airport or their carrier directly for further information about any potential disruption to flights.

Manx Radio has contacted the Emergency Services Joint Control Room and Isle of Man Constabulary for comment.
