James Hampton standing as an independent candidate
The first candidate has announced their intention to stand in Glenfaba and Peel in the upcoming election.
James Hampton describes himself as a 'professional Jack-of-all-trades', running his own businesses and working in numerous sectors including retail, civil engineering and construction.
He believes government reform is the answer to almost every problem on the Island, including health, housing and the economy.
James says: "Almost every problem you can think of with regard to government on the Isle of Man is rooted in the same core issue… The structure and format of government itself.
"We are pretty much the only place in the world with free and open elections, but no influence on the policies we receive.
"I am offering focused direct action on this root issue."
The General Election is taking place on Thursday 24 September.
