12 tonnes landed as part of initial quota
The first herring have been landed in Douglas under a landmark agreement between the Isle of Man and UK governments.
The vessel Our Sara Jane, owned by Adie Kinrade and skippered by Melvin Reid, brought twelve tonnes of herring ashore, as part of an initial quota of 100 tonnes.
A small number of vessels have diverted from the shellfish fisheries - a figure that's likely to increase in the years ahead. They've taken advantage of a DEFA grant to help them invest in new equipment.
