Rates in Ramsey are to go up by 4.6% from April.
Commissioners have approved an increase of 16p, bringing the sum to 364p in the pound for the next financial year.
It's the first change in rates for the town in five years.
The authority says additional responsibilities transferred from central government, including waste disposal, weed removal and the running of the Northern Civic Amenity Site, are behind the increase.
A highly publicised move to buy the historic Ramsey Courthouse building last year is also cited - but the board believes there is 'strong potential' to recoup some of the cost through rental income in future.
