Five fires started deliberately at Manx hospitals in last seven years

Manx Care confirmed the majority of fire incidents were false alarms

Five fires have been intentionally started at the Island's hospitals in the last seven years, according to new figures.

The data, released as part of a Freedom of Information request response, show a total of 129 fire incidents have been reported at either Noble's or Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital since 2018.

The questioner asked: "Please provide details of any fire incidents at Nobles Hospital (including Nobles Estate) and Ramsey Cottage Hospitals such as fires, Automatic Fire Alarm Activations and Unwanted Fire Signals, within the last four years (if applicable and records held), please state whether IOMFRS attended and for Fire Alarm activations, if there was a cause of activation such as a fire alarm call point activation or a smoke/heat detector activation."

In the response, Manx Care confirmed the majority of incidents were false alarms.

Fire alarms were activated accidentally 44 times, cigarettes caused 12 incidents, and fire risks or hazards were reported 24 times.

But deliberate fires were started in the years 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The healthcare body hasn't provided information on which incidents the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service attended.
