Flooding still causing problems but rain forecast to ease

The Mountain Road remains closed this afternoon after almost 36 hours of continuous rain led to flooding.

It's closed from the Lheaney Road in Ramsey through to Hillberry and water is said to be flooding across the carriageway in places.

The situation will be reviewed later today (Tues)

The DOI says 150 millimetres or around six inches of rain has fallen in the last 36 hours. However, rain is expected to ease through the afternoon.

The Creg ny baa back road, Lonan Old Church Road and the Tholt y will Road from Mountain Road to Sulby are all closed. There are large amounts of standing water on the Cronk y Voddy straight and the Peel Coast Road is said to be bad in places with some minor landslides where roadside hedges have collapsed.

The Department of Infrastructure says travel conditions remain difficult and staff are working in areas of flooding.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and special caution should be taken on back roads where standing water can be several feet deep.

The ford at Ballasalla remains closed and fords should be avoided.

Drivers can check for latest information via the police Facebook and Twitter pages but as usual the advice is to slow down and take extra care.
