Abortion Reform Bill passes latest hurdle in Keys
A former health minister has voted against reforming abortion legislation in the Island.
In the House of Keys this morning, Kate Beecroft said she has serious concerns over how some of the wording of the bill could be interpreted - including the definition of the term 'serious social grounds'.
Mrs Beecroft also questioned the lack of a need for a medical professional to agree with the reason for a termination, during the 14 to 24 week period of pregnancy.
The Douglas South MHK said the proposed legislation wasn't ready to be sent to the Legislative Council.
The Abortion Reform Bill passed it's third reading in the House of Keys by 22 votes to 2, and will now go forward to the Legislative Council.
