Mike Booth had to have part his leg amputated after incident at Joey's
A TT racer who was forced to have part of his leg amputated after crashing at last year’s event says he’s accepted that he won’t race here again.
Mike Booth was due to compete in five races at TT 2022 but an incident at Joey’s - on the last day of qualifying - meant he didn’t complete any.
He fractured both tibias, both fibulas and both femurs and sustained damage to his spine – doctors were left with no choice but to amputate below his right knee.
After the surgery he described losing his leg as ‘one of the most difficult things to get my head around’.
“I’ve seen people run marathons, climb mountains, race bikes and do all sorts of stuff, with prosthetic limbs. Things will be different, but it’s not the end of the world…. and crashing where I did, could (and probably should) have been a lot worse.” – Mike Booth (2022)
A crowdfunding appeal, by 44Teeth, raised £90,000 to support his recovery – something he’d described as ‘mindblowing’.
