Commissioner shares views on proposal for all-Island leisure rate
The foundations of the Isle of Man’s ratings system need to be ‘fixed’ before an all-Island leisure rate could be introduced.
Ramsey Commissioner Juan McGuinness says whilst he’s interested in the idea being floated by one of the town’s MHKs he doesn’t think it will ‘get very far’.
Lawrie Hooper has put forward a motion to introduce the leisure rate with the money ringfenced to pay for regional swimming pools saying there needs to be more fairness.
Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to Mr McGuinness about the issue:
Mr Hooper’s motion is due to be heard in January next year.
It also asks Treasury to report to Tynwald by March 2025 with a timetable for the introduction of the rate before the end of the current administration.
