Free introductory Manx Language workshops on offer

Interactive ‘Blass Beg’ (Little Taste) workshop for beginners

Free Manx language workshops are being held this weekend for anyone interested in starting to learn.

Described as an informal, fun and friendly introduction to Manx the 'Blass Beg' - or 'Little Taste' - workshops will offer games, activities and a relaxed learning environment.

They're suitable for adult beginners of all ages and accompanied young people from school Year 7 upwards.

The interactive workshops will be held between 10am and 1pm today (26 September) in Ramsey, Douglas, Port Erin and Peel.

They are being offered as part of the Cooish Vooar Manx Language Festival.

Year of the Manx Language Coordinator Tiffany Kerruish said: "Manx is all around us - in our place names, street signs, music and songs…it’s increasingly visible in public spaces and an ever-growing number of community events and occasions.  

"People are enjoying the Manx language in so many different ways - for some it’s the sense of shared community it brings, others enjoy the way it helps unlock the secrets of our beautiful landscape and the way it connects us to our living culture.  

"The language offers intellectual challenge and a sociable, warm community of learners and with 2026 being Year of the Manx Language there has never been a better time to join in!"
