New measures planned for 2018
A second round of alterations to the Island's work permit system will come into force in the new year.
From January 15 the Department for Enterprise will introduce a new register of persons in exempt employment, and a 'simplified' list of criteria to be considered when assessing applications.
A new 'employer only' form will also be used from this date.
The changes follow the award of automatic rights to a one year permit for cohabiting partners of Island workers, introduced earlier in this year.
Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly says the measures are aimed at addressing 'labour shortages' in certain sectors of the economy, and increasing the economically active population.
