Chief minister says site could be re-purposed to meet housing and community needs
The Isle of Man Government is exploring options to re-purpose Reayrt ny Baie to help meet a range of housing and community needs.
Chief Minister Alfred Cannan confirmed the site is being considered for uses such as accommodation for homeless people, transitional housing for recently released prisoners, support for young people leaving care, or key worker housing.
His response followed a written Tynwald question from Onchan MHK Rob Callister, who asked whether the building might also be used to address wider housing pressures or as a women’s refuge.
Mr Cannan said discussions are ongoing through the Housing and Communities Board, working with officials across government, to determine whether the estate could be used for a specific service requirement or a combination of provisions.
He added that the aim is to ensure any future use of Reayrt ny Baie is “both sustainable and responsive to the evolving needs of our community”, with further updates to be provided as proposals progress.
