BP and EnBW have secured required seabed rights
Plans for two giant wind farms in the Irish Sea are progressing.
BP and German company EnBW have already secured leases for a combined three gigawatts project between the North West of England and the Isle of Man.
The 50-50 joint partnership scheme was announced last year after the required seabed rights were obtained through an auction held by The Crown Estates in the UK.
The windfarms would provide enough energy to power 3.4 million homes though their proposed location - between the Isle of Man and Liverpool - is of concern to the Steam Packet Company and other Irish Sea operators.
EnBW and BP have launched a first round of consultation on the Mona wind farm which runs until the 3 August.
It's proposed to make the first UK grid connections in 2027 with an expected start of commercial operations in 2028.
