Project to 'blend into woodland'
Government wants to build a visitor centre and glamping pods at South Barrule.
A meeting was held last night with local residents and interested groups to discuss the plans.
They include a building which can provide catering, toilet facilities, and act as classroom and information centre.
Alongside this, 40 glamping pods and luxury lodges are also proposed to develop the South Barrule area as a 'destination for outdoor enthusiasts'.
The buildings will raised off the ground on stilts to avoid need for foundations, and are designed to 'blend into the woodland'.
Plans have been designed to ensure the site will be 'fully inclusive', with wheelchair friendly walkways and sensory areas for visually impaired visitors to enjoy.
Bird and bat boxes will be put up for the project, as part of efforts to work with the Island's 'trusts and societies'.
Nature walks and use of the centre for education are also mentioned to encourage conservation and biodiversity.
If government is successful with a planning application, the project will be put out to tender.
