Health Minister keen to avoid problems encountered elsewhere
The health minister insists it's important to make sure GPs are trained to prescribe cannabis, if patients here are to be given access to the drug.
The results of consultations on medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp were published this week, the former of which revealed more than half of respondents want the drug to be available through accredited dispensaries.
Some patients in the United Kingdom have found it difficult to obtain cannabis, despite specialist consultants being able to prescribe it there since last year.
GPs in the UK currently can't do so, without gaining an extra qualification.
