Minister Christian explains why department needs additional £20.8m

The health minister says her department was reluctant to cut services in order to come in on budget during the last financial year.

The Department of Health and Social Care is seeking an additional £20.8m by way of a supplementary vote in next month's sitting of Tynwald.

It's said the majority of costs stem from staffing pressures, alongside other factors such as higher than anticipated spending on complex care for patients with serious long-term conditions.

Claire Christian says, when it comes to sticking to a budget, healthcare is 'different':

Tynwald members will be asked to approve the supplementary vote next month.
