Group calls on Tynwald to oppose plans
A pro-life pressure group has branded a suggestion to update the Island's abortion laws 'regressive'.
Humanity and Equality in Abortion Reform (HEAR) claims Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson's plans to introduce a Private Members' Bill to Tynwald would 'open the system up to abuses' and allow for a culture of 'abortion on demand'.
It calls on Tynwald members to reject the proposal.
In a statement, HEAR points to the '550 babies destroyed every day' in England and Wales - arguing liberalising the Island's criteria for terminations would deny the human rights of unborn children.
HEAR spokesperson Hannah Grove says the current rules already do 'a good job':
