Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust purchase accommodation for medical students

House will house up to five students at any given time

A new home has been purchased on the Island to accommodate up to five students working at Noble’s Hospital at any given time.

It’s after the Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust was approached by the educational Staff at the facility.

Whilst the Isle of Man does not have its own medical school, Noble’s Hospital has always welcomed students from medical schools across, often from the North West of England or Ireland, on short attachments to ‘enhance their clinical training’.

However, the lack of sufficient appropriate accommodation has been highlighted as an issue – most of the present on-site accommodation is required for temporary Staff from across filling essential staff posts at the Hospital.

Although medical schools provide funding for accommodation for visiting students, that accommodation needs to be close to the Hospital and guaranteed available prior to their placements.

The Henry Bloom Noble HealthCare Trust felt that it could assist, as it has an investment portfolio, and would receive a rental return on any property investment from the funds provided by the medical schools.

Mark Roberts is the Medical Undergraduate Course Coordinator for Noble’s Hospital.

He says investment like this will see a return for the Island, as medical students will be incentivised to return after their training:
