New stretch of road to open on Monday
A £125 million highway project in northern England could have a significant effect on ferry travel to and from the Island.
That's the view of passenger rights group TravelWatch, as the new Bay Gateway motorway link opens at Heysham port this morning (Mon).
The 3-mile stretch of road will allow Steam Packet car passengers to reach the M6 in as little as 10 minutes - avoiding the traffic congestion in Lancaster city centre.
TravelWatch spokesman John Pennington believes it could reshape the provision of sea services:

Several sailings at risk or cancelled due to adverse weather
