Patients transferred after Ward 4 was shut
A ward at Noble's Hospital has been closed on two separate occasions in the last year due to staff shortages.
From 5 September 2023 to 5 September 2024, ward 4 was closed twice.
On 24 July 2024 it was shut overnight by the duty manager with five patients transferred to another surgical ward.
This was due to staffing shortages overnight on wards 4 and 8.
On 14 August 2024, the ward was again shut after discussion with the care group, with three patients transferred to another surgical ward.
This is said to have supported staffing on wards 8 and 1.
The closures have been revealed as part of a response to a Tynwald written question.
Douglas North MHK David Ashford asked the health and social care minister on how many occasions in the last 12 months had a ward been closed due to staff shortages resulting in at least one patient being transferred to another ward.
