Iconic race taking place this weekend (27 Apr)
A huge contingent of Manx athletes is expected to take part in this weekend's London Marathon.
The iconic race through the English capital is due to take place on Sunday (27 April) with participants racing competitively, for personal goals or even for important charitable causes.
Among the Island runners due to be involved is Christa Cain who currently holds the Manx Women's Marathon record of two hours, 39 minutes and ten seconds.
This will be her debut at the London event - she thinks the famous atmosphere and sheer popularity of the race is among the reasons why so many want to be involved:
The whole event will be broadcast live on the BBC with the elite wheelchair men's and women's races due to start proceedings at 8.50am.
Following that the Elite Women's race is then expected to get underway at 9.05am; ten minutes later at 9.15am is then scheduled to be the start of the Elite Men's race followed by the mass start.
Largely unchanged since the event started in 1981, the 26.2-mile course takes in some of London's most famous landmarks such as Tower Bridge, Tower of London, the London Eye and Big Ben.
The finish line will be based on The Mall near Buckingham Palace.
