Hazel Drury becomes highest-scoring female "octochamp"
A Manx resident has completed a record-breaking run on the Channel 4 gameshow Countdown.
Hazel Drury, from Ramsey, who was diagnosed with severe dyslexia at 15 held an eight-game winning streak.
Not only that, but she became the highest scoring female "octochamp" in Countdown history, becoming one of only five contestants to score more than 1000 points in a single run.
In order to hit the benchmark, 29-year-old Hazel needed to score 113 points in her appearance on Friday (30 October).
She was on 103 prior to the final Conundrum, which would award her with the ten points she needed.
Hazel's incredible anagram-solving skills didn't let her down; she solved the puzzle in just one second.
Host, Colin Murray, said he was "absolutely buzzing" with Hazel's achievement and described her Countdown efforts as "wonderful" and to watch her enter the history books "an incredible honour".
It means Hazel, who sits at the top of the Series 94 rankings with 1001 points, will return for the series finals scheduled in December.
And it wasn't Hazel's first appearance on Countdown, when she was 18 she won four shows, leading presenter Rachel Riley to nicknaming her "the baby-faced assassin".
