Inflation rate increases to 4.1%

Oils, petrol and tobacco among categories seeing big increases over the last 12 months

The Island's inflation rate increased last month.

The consumer prices index now stands at 4.1 percent, up 0.2 percent compared to July.

Oils and other fuels have seen a 57 percent increase over the last 12 months, while petrol and oil are up 19.8 precent.

Alcohol and tobacco prices have risen 6.6 percent, fruit is up 8.6 percent and driving lessons have jumped 11.1 percent.

A number of categories recorded decreases, including soft drinks, furnishings and other travel costs.

Meanwhile the retail prices index remains unchanged; it stands at 5.3 percent.
