Coroner of Inquests delivers narrative verdict
The Coroner of Inquests has accepted evidence that a woman who died following surgery received appropriate treatment at Noble's Hospital.
32-year-old Aimee Woodward died in August 2017 after suffering a cardiac arrest the day after a procedure to remove an ovarian cyst.
After hearing evidence from the doctors and nurses who treated her, John Needham told the court he hadn't detected any failure by the hospital that contributed to her death.
He agreed with the pathologist's report, which suggested Miss Woodward's cardiac arrest, which led to non-survivable brain damage, was most likely caused by a pre-existing heart condition.
Mr Needham found the right checks had been carried out ahead of the operation to ensure she was fit for surgery.
Delivering a narrative verdict, Mr Needham made no recommendations for change at the hospital, describing Miss Woodward's death as a great tragedy.
