Bacteria resistant to antibiotics
Nobles Hospital has been free from MRSA super-bug for 450 days.
The Department of Health and Social Care congratulates patients, visitors and staff for their commitment to helping achieve a zero bloodstream infection rate.
The bacterium - often referred to as a 'super-bug' - is resistant to common antibiotics, making infections more difficult to treat.
Patients are now screened for it on admission into hospital, and the introduction of MRSA care pathways.
But Director of Hospitals, Mike Quinn, says a very basic practice has made the biggest difference:
