National broadband strategy by October
The Chief Minister wants the Isle of Man to position itself as a world leader in internet connectivity.
A working group set up by Howard Quayle last year has found local providers are 'falling behind' in global terms, due to a lack of competition and weak regulation.
The Department for Enterprise has been tasked with developing a national broadband strategy, due to be published by October.
A target download speed of 30 megabits/second has been set for 2020, which would place the Isle of Man in the top ten nations for fast internet (by current standards).
Mr Quayle believes better broadband would attract business and improve the economy.
