Disasters committee grateful for grant
The Isle of Man has been told its donation of £100,000 to the Yemen crisis appeal will help make an 'extraordinary difference' to those suffering.
The chief executive of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has praised the Manx government's emergency aid budget grant.
A brutal civil war in Yemen since 2015 has left the population facing food and water shortages, with the country now on the verge of famine.
The DEC co ordinates the fundraising efforts of 13 major UK charities for response to large-scale disasters.
CEO Saleh Saeed who has just returned from Yemen said he had never seen so many people facing such hardship.
He said donations such as that from the Island will make a real difference to those facing life threatening disease and starvation.
Seventy per cent of Yemen's population - 19 million people - require humanitarian assistance.
