Isle of Man Friends of the Earth says it hopes the Island will follow the rest of the British Isles and introduce a mandatory plastic bag tax soon.
Its comments come off the back of the news this weekend that since the 5p charge's introduction in England last October, 640 million plastic bags were bought in the seven major supermarkets there.
Waste reduction charity Wrap in 2014 estimated those same seven gave away around 7.64 billion.
