Treasury hoping to introduce new tax in 2027/28 financial year
The Isle of Man Medical Society says it's against proposals for a new NHS levy to be implemented on the Island.
Treasury is currently carrying out a consultation on the plans, which wouldn't come into force until the 2027/28 financial year at the earliest.
It says while the Isle of Man is at a crossroads in healthcare financing, sustainable solutions are within reach without a 'regressive' levy.
The IOMMS believes the tax will be a disproportional burden for vulnerable people and risks widening existing inequalities.
Instead, it's laid out alternative 'Recovery, Reform and Restructuring' plans to address systemic issues without additional taxation.
These include restructuring Manx Care to rationalise management layers and developing a private healthcare provision in the Isle of Man.
