Proposals criticised by Unite
The Isle of Man would follow the same principles as the UK over any change in employment status - so says the Manx Industrial Relations Service.
This week the Taylor Review was published, recommending the UK government introduce a new category of 'dependent contractor', affording some new labour rights for those in short-term work.
This proposal is criticised by the Island's Unite representative, Eric Holmes, as inadequate and open to continued exploitation by employers.
Industrial Relations Officer, Julie Bradley, says anyone concerned about their status can have it confirmed through an employment tribunal - she told Manx Radio defining short-term work can be a grey area:

Consultation open on plans to formally recognise the heritage of Douglas Head
Fundraiser to keep St John Ambulance emergency fleet on the road
Ayre and Michael MHKs request meeting with commissioners over rates
Data breach impact rises sharply as cyber incidents affect thousands on Isle of Man
Reassurance for local telecare users and community support offer
