Captain and Manager confident in abilities to take Island Games gold

The Isle of Man women's football side is eyeing gold at the 2025 Island Games and they believe they have the tools they need to achieve that goal.

That's the belief of the squad's captain and manager with a 20-strong team hoping to eclipse the bronze medal they won at the previous games in Guernsey in 2023.

Between then and now, the team went on to win the inaugural Cherry Godfrey Cup in summer of last year where they faced fellow Island nations Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Wight.

Isle of Man captain, Becky Corkish and team boss, Wayne Lisy say they've also taken plenty of lessons from the previous games two years ago:

Prior to claiming bronze in Guernsey, the team had also won silver in the women's football tournament in Gotland in 2017.

The Isle of Man has been a late addition to the women's football tournament at this year's occasion in Orkney.

Having originally only been drawn as a reserve in September 2024, the Isle of Man was instated into the main draw in December last year following the withdrawal of Guernsey.

The Manx squad's Group One campaign in Orkney will begin on Sunday, 12 July at 7pm when they face Gozo.

After that, they Isle of Man will take on Frøya at 3.30pm the following day (14 July) before facing host nation, Orkney on Tuesday, 15 July, also at 3.30pm.
