New training scheme launched
Butchers on the Island are being encouraged to have their skills recognised and formalised.
Isle of Man Meats has set up a new training scheme as part of its investment into the food production sector.
It provides the opportunity for butchers already in the trade, and those keen to join it, to gain a nationally recognised NVQ qualification.
Phil Parsons, the plant director at Isle of Man Meats, said: "Traditionally the skills of local butchers have been handed down from one generation to the next but – as we have seen in many other industries – there’s now a risk that these skills could be lost because today's generation of school leavers have so many opportunities when choosing their career path."
Continual assessment will be undertaken through a link with M.E.A.T Ipswich.
