Gary Ashe hopeful team can medal in Orkney this month
The team manager of the Isle of Man's Island Games golf team thinks the event is 'just that bit different' to anything else local players will take part in.
There will be eight Manx players heading to Orkney this month with an even split of those across the men's and ladies individual and team competitions.
Gary Ashe is spearheading the campaign and has represented the Island at the games on multiple occasions previously.
After Manx competitors took one medal in the sport in Guernsey in 2023, Mr Ashe is confident one or more local players could be in the running again:
During the previous games in Guernsey in 2023, the Isle of Man's one medal in golf was a bronze in the men's team event.
Meanwhile, the ladies squad finished fourth in their tournament, missing out on bronze by just one shot.
Overall, the Isle of Man is one of the more successful nations in Island Games golf tournaments, topping the overall medal tables in the sport in Gotland in 2017; Jersey in 2015 and Isle of Wight in 2011.
The 2025 Island Games are scheduled to take place from 12-18 July.
