Local hero commends Manx spirit
Mark Cavendish has praised the Island's unique sporting culture, adding that people here 'don't do it for the glory'.
The cycling icon was named sportsman of the year at the annual Isle of Man Bank Sports Awards last night.
Champion swimmer Charlotte Atkinson was named sportswoman of the year.
Among the other winners were Parish Walker Richard Gerrard, who scooped the veterans' prize; while Ben Grainger swept the disability category for the third successive year.
The ceremony at the Villa Marina was a brief stopover home for Cavendish - who reflected on the affair shortly afterwards:
