But legislation could be considered as part of other bills
The Isle of Man has no plans to follow the UK and introduce specific legislation focussed around meeting the needs of people with Down syndrome.
Instead the health and social care minister has confirmed it’s something which is likely to be looked at as part of a new Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Bill which is due in 2024.
Douglas North MHK David Ashford wanted to know if the Island would replicate the Down Syndrome Act 2022 which received royal assent in April.
He quizzed Lawrie Hooper on the topic in the House of Keys this week saying life outcomes for people with the genetic condition have changed ‘dramatically’ over the last 60 years:
