More competition among providers of land line phone services in the Isle of Man is on the way.
In a shake-up announced by the Island's Communications Commission, from October consumers will be free to choose which operator they use to make fixed line calls with.
The facility known as Carrier Pre-Selection could allow customers to use different operators for local and international calls.
In a separate move aimed at opening-up competition, by the end of the year Island customers will also be free to choose who provides their fixed line.
It will allow competing operators to offer bundled packages including home phone calls, mobile and broadband.
Communications Commission Chairman Juan Watterson MHK said: "The Commission is committed to maintaining a regulatory environment where telecoms operators can offer consumers a range of products and services, while encouraging investment and innovation for the good of the Island’s citizens and its economy”
