Highest recorded winds for June in 40 years
The Island is recovering this morning from a night of high winds and torrential rain.
Stormy conditions brought down a number of trees, forced emergency services to close roads and washed out TT camp sites.
During the early evening at the peak of the bad weather, the wind speeds were the highest ever recorded at Ronaldsway for June, reaching 63mph.
Met man Neil Young spoke to Manx Radio about the record winds.
The community showed its true colours overnight with a number of facilities around the Island opening their doors and offering shelter, drying facilities and food for visiting bikers who were unable to stay at their chosen campsites.
One such venture was run at the South Douglas Old Friends Club, where Keith from Coventry ended up after arriving in the Island at one o’clock this morning.
