Numbers reveal gulf in services
The Isle of Man has been ranked 50th in a list of world nations for internet speed.
A league table, published this week by comparison website Cable.co.uk, shows Manx users' connections are more than three quarters slower than the UK average.
Analysis of open-source data from across the globe found that the typical download speed in the Island is 9.01Mbps (Megabits/second) - around the same as in Kenya.
Compare that to 16.51Mbps in mainland Britain, which ranks 31st in the league.
That means it would take 50 minutes longer to download an HD film here than it would over there.
Beating both jurisdictions, though, is Jersey, which sits among the top 20 quickest world providers.
Back in June, Manx Telecom said its new 'superfast' fibre cables around the Island could improve speeds by as much as tenfold.
