Isle of Man retains Fairtrade 'community' status 

Fairtrade Fortnight 2026 underway

The Isle of Man has retained its Fairtrade 'community' status for another three years.

It follows a submission for renewal earlier this summer.

The mark acknowledges the work of the Island’s Fairtrade Group, as well as schools, churches, businesses and other organisations, in campaigning and collaborating to promote trade justice and sustainable farming practices.

Activities over the years have included conferences and assemblies for primary schools, Fairtrade tea and coffee promotions, talks and stalls at various events and, most recently, welcoming Douglas City Council’s commitment to supporting Fairtrade principles as a local authority.

Speaking on behalf of the Isle of Man Fairtrade Group, One World Centre Coordinator Wendy Shimmin said: "We’re delighted that the Fairtrade community status has been awarded for another three years up to 2029.

"As the Fairtrade Foundation says, ‘every action taken on a local level adds to raising awareness of the issues of unfair trade and furthers the progress of workers’ rights, safer working conditions and fairer pay for farmers and workers globally.’

"Buying and supporting Fairtrade is such an easy way for us to support the people who bring us some of our favourite foods – tea, coffee, cocoa and bananas among them – that we are unable to grow on the Isle of Man."
