Douglas Council 'supportive of the proposals'
A local organisation has applied for planning permission (25/90637/B) to demolish an existing timber building on its site and replace it with a new single storey building.
Isle of Play says the proposed facility, at its Lester's Yard Adventure Playground, will be used for the provision of children’s support services.
The team say the existing building is 'in a state of decay', and a 'new, larger building' would 'better accommodate the service'.
If approved, part of it would also extend into a small area of the existing paddock, with the remaining area 'maintained as lawn and orchard'.
They say: "This would ensure a secure environment for traditional outdoor activities such as picnics, football, cricket, and rounders, free from dog mess and available for local events."
The proposed building would consist of two integrated spaces:
Space One (Lester’s Yard):
-
- A large social room with a fully equipped kitchen
- Storage room
- Small office
- Two toilets
Space Two (Paddock - Therapeutic Space):
-
- A separate entrance for therapy and support sessions
- Facilities to accommodate:
- Play therapy
- Art therapy
- Parent and child support groups
It says the owners of the land, Douglas Council, are supportive of the proposals, with consent given by the DBC Regeneration Committee on 12 March.
