All medical professionals given 'right to prescribe'
Jersey could be set to make big changes regarding medicinal cannabis use as soon as February next year, as politicians in the Isle of Man consider their own reforms for the drug.
Members of the Island's States Assembly agreed upon a proposal yesterday (6 Nov) to allow GPs to prescribe the drug to patients with chronic pain.
The prospective changes to law put the crown dependency in the position to become the first in the British Isles to do so.
Last month, the UK Home Office announced a relaxing of cannabis laws but has restricted medicinal use to specialist cases.
Longstanding campaigner and politician Monfort Tadier says the agreement is a 'watershed moment'.
The Department of Health and Social Care on the Isle of Man is set to take the matter to public consultation before the end of the year.
