Mass effort from Manx, UK lifeboats
A kayaker had a lucky escape off the coast of Cumbria yesterday, with the help of lifeboat crews from the Isle of Man.
Douglas and Ramsey RNLI volunteers were called to the Copeland area at around 9.30am on Saturday, where they were joined by four other rescue boats.
The stricken man had capsized and was lost adrift.
A two-hour search ended when he was winched from the sea by helicopter, and determined to be only in need of a shower and a hot drink.
Crews have praised the co-ordinated effort between Manx and UK vessels - and reiterated the importance to sea kayakers of carrying radio equipment when sailing unaccompanied.
